Beijing – Chinese smartphone company Xiaomi It announced on Tuesday that it will officially launch its long-awaited electric car on March 28.
The company claimed in a social media post that its SU7 electric vehicle “will be delivered as soon as it is launched,” according to a CNBC translation of the Chinese-language post.
The company is opening a waiting list for 59 stores in 29 cities in China, the post said.
Xiaomi revealed the exterior and technical features of the car in late December, but did not share the price or specific delivery date.
Last month, Xiaomi president Weibing Lu told CNBC that the company is targeting the premium segment with the car, and noted that deliveries could begin as soon as the second quarter.
While the company unveiled the car to an international audience for the first time at Mobile World Conference Barcelona, Lu said it will likely take at least another two or three years before Xiaomi starts selling the car overseas.
