There is no tsunami threat in California and the West Coast of the United States after a strong earthquake shook the coast of Taiwan on Tuesday evening, officials said.
The US Geological Survey recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 7.5. Tsunami warnings were issued in parts of Taiwan and Japan.
The US National Tsunami Warning Center said it had studied the quake and determined that the West Coast was not in danger. However, some areas “may experience harmless sea level changes.” The agency did not specify which areas might see changes.
