As Jimmy Kimmel hosts the 96th Annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, all eyes are on him. worldwide “Oppenheimer.” How many awards will the explosive resume take home on Sunday night?
The film dominated nominations in the major categories, appearing in the areas of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Cinematography. He received 13 nominations overall, leading the pack.
It won seven of those awards, including Best Picture. Cillian Murphy also won Best Actor for his lead role in Oppenheimer, as many expected, and Christopher Nolan also won Best Director.
searchlight Meanwhile, “Poor Things” received 11 nominations and took home four Oscars, namely Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Emma Stone also won Best Actress.
Other big names to watch are apples “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which received 10 nominations Warner Bros. “Barbie” with eight.
“Barbie” achieved her first win for Best Original Song for the song “What Are You Made For?” Written by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell.
Daphne Joy Randolph won her first Oscar of the night, taking home the Best Supporting Actress award for her performance as a boarding school cafeteria manager mourning the death of her son in the Vietnam War in Alexander Payne's The Holdovers.
The Best Actress category is expected to be a close race. Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and Emma Stone (“Poor Things”) have traded wins throughout this year's awards season. If Gladstone wins, she will be the first Native American person to win a competitive acting Oscar in the ceremony's 96-year history.
