Milan is known for its fashion, design and food, but its nightlife – somewhat unfairly – hasn't always received the same attention. Many people are drawn to Milan for its elegant atmosphere, but what really fascinates me is the vibrant nightlife culture created by the secret societies. I moved here from London about 20 years ago, and began my career as a DJ until I founded my own nightclub Punks Wear Prada, which is known for attracting fashionistas, models and jet-setters.
Milan's club culture is fueled by a close-knit community, with most enthusiasm and events spread through word of mouth. When partying in Milan, getting inside information or receiving suggestions about the area is essential to understanding where and when to go. Whether you're looking for jazz, house or techno, it's all about opening up spaces and developing strong communities.
During the week, I'm constantly moving around organizing events for my members' club, Dinner Talks, in the city. So when I have some free time, I prefer to relax and enjoy aperitivo, the Italian version of happy hour, at one of the trendy new bars that have been popping up. Currently, I love Bicchierino, which brings the new wave of fashion and design community to the Giambellino area, or the recently opened Bar Paradiso in Porta Romana, where I can meet friends, have a few drinks or enjoy some champagne.
Whenever there is a band playing in town, I love listening to live music. One of my favorite places is Santeria, which is a great place that mainly focuses on acoustic performances. I have a real passion for discovering talent and seeing how new generations are creating new and vibrant spaces, like Dubbo? In Corveto. Run by a group of designers and architects, Dopo? Serves as a co-working space and cultural centre. Afterwards, there are often after-work conversations, cocktails and sets by emerging DJs, creating a lively and fun party atmosphere. It's a great place to get inspired and meet other artists while discovering new opportunities in the city.
On Thursdays, I usually attend events reserved exclusively for DC Club members. But if I don't have one to organize, you'll probably find me at Bar Basso, where the Negroni Spagliato was invented, replacing gin with Prosecco. Everyone loves owner Maurizio Stocchetto and his famous giant cocktail glasses. If Strexia, the most popular DJ in Milan, was playing at Emporio Armani restaurant, I would stop by because I love her selection of music that ranges from 90's to 60's Italian classics – there's always a crowd and a great atmosphere. I also love Bar Nico, which was founded by a couple who left the fashion world to open a bar.
On Friday evenings, Milan comes alive with a club scene that caters to all kinds of tastes and interests. Whether you like electronic DJ sets or underground hip-hop culture, this city has something for you. There are some great clubs, like Volt, Amnesia, or Fabrique, all of which guarantee you a great night.
Boca's monthly party is known for hosting leading DJs. Underground electronic music parties are always a hit and can keep you dancing until the wee hours of the morning. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the concerts held by MOAB, an always loud techno band.
If you're in the mood for some pop music fun, La Boum has an amazing appeal and is a must for anyone wanting to attend a great party for the LGBTQ+ community. Other than that, I will always visit my friends at Akeem, the most important hip-hop and R&B night in Milan, at Rocket Club in Naviglio Grande – the founder Marvelly is like family to me.
Calling those who can't resist daytime parties: The city is now full of exciting Sunday brunches, like the ones hosted by my friends at Maka Loft.
I absolutely love seeing hidden gems like La Corte Dei Miracoli, a cultural think tank in Navigli. Organizers are hosting a jazz concert on Sunday, where talented artists from all over the world come together to perform. The atmosphere is great and full of quirky characters, giving me a nostalgic feeling of being back in London.
Punks Wear Prada returns to Milan's Salone del Mobile on April 20. For tickets and information, visit punkswearprada.com and @punkswearprada
Dinner Conversations is a community builder and members club without a physical space, founded in Milan in 2022, and has since expanded globally.
