Dutch police said several people were being held hostage in the eastern Dutch town of Ede early Saturday morning, and homes in the area were evacuated.
Police said there was no indication of a terrorist motive.
The police said in a statement published on social media that several special police units were deployed at the scene of the accident, a building located in the city center. They added that 150 homes were evacuated and the public was asked to stay away from the area.
National newspaper De Telegraaf, citing several anonymous sources, reported that a man carrying weapons and explosives was detaining people at a local nightclub.
A reporter for Radio NOS said a remote-controlled robot was at the scene as well as anti-explosives units and police wearing protective clothing.
Trains to and from Ede have been cancelled, NS Railway said on its website.
