Easter Sunday shooting erupted into a deadly midday shooting in a gated riverside community, according to police. A man was killed and a woman was injured.
A Riverside Police Department spokesperson said police arrested a man at the scene in connection with the double shooting.
Officers were called just after noon to the 7600 block of Canberra Road after a shooting was reported at a residence, Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback said. When they arrived, they found a mortally wounded man and a woman who had also been shot but survived. She was taken to the hospital, where she remained in critical condition until approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Railsback said. Their ages were not immediately known.
A person of interest was arrested at the scene and taken in for questioning, Railsback said. He added that the police also found a gun in the house.
With the investigation just getting underway, details about the incident are scant, Railsback said. He added that investigators are working to piece together the events that led to the shooting, adding that the motive is not yet known.
He added that investigators are trying to determine the nature of the relationship between the person being interrogated and the two people who were shot. At this time, police only know that the three know each other.
“We think they all know each other,” Railsback said. “I don't know who lives in the house, if they all live there.”
Railsback also did not know if officers had previously been called to the address.
